Sexy Fierce Fitness

For the past 4 weeks,  I was part of a fitness challenge.  It seemed right up my alley.  I didn't know any of the girls participating.  It was completely random of me to join in on the "fun".  I am so glad that I did because it is exactly what I've been looking for to help me.  When I originally started the challenge, I thought I was crazy and kind of expected to not really push myself THAT hard.
The easiest way to explain just what the challenge was about is it was a point system for things you did (or didn't) do every day.  There were some that were incredibly easy for me-- ie, no soda, 64 oz water, multi-vitamin, good portioned breakfast, 6-8 hrs continuous sleep.   Then there were some that I definitely struggled with-- no sugar(NO SUGAR, seriously like none- nothing with sugar in it) 5 servings of veggies a day, no unhealthy snacks.  There were other points that were hit and miss but definitely more on the easier side.  You could get a total of 15 points a day (I only had 3 perfect 15 point days)  Throughout the week you could do things to receive "extra credit points"- run a race, community service, report your new measurements, take time for yourself, and spend 1 hr with someone in your family doing something active.  Sounds intense right? It really actually got easier and easier.
I typically in the past have always told people I hated Jillian workout dvds.  But the 6 week Six Pack is my favorite I've done in a LOOOONG time! I am blown away at the results I've gotten from it.  I'm definitely a fan.
The days I went without sugar (there were 5 of them...) were surprisingly easy once I got into the swing of it. I have learned so much about my eating habits throughout the whole thing.  I definitely am an emotional eater(I already knew I was but not to the extent it was...) And I love me some sugar in the afternoon. I just love that there was a reason to push myself to actually not eat sugar.  This sugar addict saw just how easy it was to avoid the stuff.
I think one thing I really loved about this, is how incredibly healthy I have felt.  Everything feels better.  I don't even know how to explain it.  As much as I loved my body bugg, I was working out 3- 4 hours a day just to give myself the ok on eating the entire package of cookies.  And I may not be down to what I weighed while wearing the body bugg, but I know I am absolutely better off now(down 4 lbs, not much I know but I'm ok with it, and 6 inches) I still walk my dogs 30-60 mins every day and a workout dvd at night (I highly recommend that Bob Harper one! It's exhausting but it is one of the better ones I've ever done....and I've done A LOT)
But eating 5 servings of veggies(I had 24 days of that) a day is fantastic! I always thought eating healthy would be too expensive but it was fun coming up with meals to incorporate veggies.  I still struggle eating a baby carrot but boy did I gag down those 10 to get my one serving ;). Kale chips are my newest addiction.  Hudson and I can down a whole bundle in no time. You all should definitely try them!
I am so grateful I had the opportunity to be part of this.  And yes, my competitive attitude was a huge help in pushing me.  I am a little nervous, tomorrow morning will be the first day where eating well isn't going to give me a "point" but I really think with how good I have been feeling I would want to keep it up.  I don't know if I accumulated the most points but I'm still incredibly proud of my 355 points I did get.  The competitor in me will be somewhat disappointed if I didn't win, but nothing can ruin the hard work I put in.
{Erica, just remember you feel the best you've ever felt.  Keep up the hard work!}

Warm Weather Suits Us Well

My life is so busy with a 1 year old! I love this! There really is no time to relax and I am just fine with that. The boy is nearly 14 months old! Hudson is a hoot.  He definitely is getting some of his mom's feisty attitude coming out more and more every day.  Oh the screaming! This better be a short little phase he's going through.  He screams in delight, he screams when he's upset, he just screams and screams and screams. Thankfully, with my phone I'm kind of better at taking pictures.  Just not so great at updating as things happen.  This will be random.

He's still a pretty good eater.  The pickiness is coming at really weird times. I think because he just doesn't want to slow down to sit down and eat- he likes his snacks on the go, if you will. There isn't even a food I hesitate to give him.

I always knew kids loved being outside but he REALLY loves it.  We spend a lot of time outside.  We walk daily, we water the flowers, we run in the yard.  He gets really upset to come back inside.  Letting the dogs out can be a chore sometime because he practically is running to the door to get to go out with them.
We went to the only local splash pad.  Thankfully his aunt Kelsi was a champ and went and got wet with him. I still don't think he was a huge fan but he liked something about it because he kept smiling.
Before nap time the other day Daren was outside working on the yard so we went out and the hose was there...and then Hudson screamed until we let him play in it.  He LOVED it.  It was adorable.
Over Memorial Day Daren's family went camping.  Ha, we know I wasn't about to go!  They all came up to  Logan canyon so I was going to attempt going one day.
But then the snow started.  I definitely don't do snow camping.  Thankfully Keera got some pictures of Daren while he was there.

This past weekend Daren was gone to his parents house.  He took Kona with him.  I can't let him do that again.  I need Kona here.  And as these pictures show, Hudson apparently really missed her too!
Oh Hudson needs to slow down.  He seems to get smarter and smarter every day.  He is quite the talker.  He points his finger and says "no, no". HA! I love it- for now.  He tells the dogs to "sit".  Juice, shoes, and socks all sound incredibly similar. He'll say Ma(no mama) only if BEGGED.  And just tonight I heard him telling Kona "good girl" after I had said it.
I love my life! I love working part time at the office/part time at home! I love being a home maker! I love taking extra good care of the dogs! But what I love the most, is being a mother to this boy.

Graduation Extravaganza!!

I really wanted to approach this post almost backwards from the order in which it happens but I just didn't know how to make that possible. Saturday, May 5th, was the most exhausting day.  I had known this day was going to be tiring since the day it clicked that I had 3 graduations that day.  I actually had no plan to attend an actual ceremony, other than the first one.  I have never been to a college grad ceremony.  I'm all about the parties that follow though.  But the first party was the night before at Olive Garden for my 98, almost 99, year old grandmother who was graduating from USU.
She'd been telling the family for years that she was going to get her diploma finally from USU. Truth be told, we'd finally thought it probably wasn't going to really happening.  But does that woman give up? No! So, after just needing a couple more credits, which due to her age they made some special arrangements to get her the classes she needed to finish to get her degree in American Studies.

Olive Garden was what I was expecting to be the most exciting part.  As I said, ceremonies don't do anything for me.  But no words can explain how fantastic them honoring her at the Spectrum was! Much better than I would have thought.  I had played different scenarios through my head of what they were going to make this tiny woman do to get that diploma.  Walk across the stage? Pushed in a wheelchair?  I was happy when we got there to see her sitting on the stage with my cousin Michelle.  But I still was unsure just what was going to happen.  When the speaker got up and said it was the time everyone really came for I was glad to finally see the plan unfold.  The speaker said though that before everyone else comes up they needed to honor a special graduate.  It was my grandmother!!
Unfortunately, us Bostons sat on the wrong side. The men were standing in our way.  Thankfully I was able to get this picture from my cousin Ciara. But the woman got a standing ovation! You definitely got goosebumps.  It was incredibly sweet! I would say my grandmother is awesome- standing ovation and an article in the newspaper? Yeah, I'm jealous ;)
As horrible as it sounds, we left after that because we had other ceremonies to get to.  Did I mention that this is all during naptime? Never a good thing to miss our nap.
The other ceremonies we had were for Wes, Daren's brother and my sister's husband, Chris.  They were unfortunately at the same time.  We made the decision to go to Wes's actual ceremony.  Which we totally scored because it was less than 30 minutes long (score!!)  But Hudson definitely had had enough and I had to take him out during the last speaker.  Next door was Chris's ceremony, no we didn't see him or anything of importance but it counts as if we were there, right?  I think so!
Both Wes and Chris had parties that night as well.  Hudson and I were able to go to Kelsi's house to party it up! Since I wasn't able to get any other picture of Chris in his cap and gown, at least I got a picture of the graduate on that day right?
After an early bed time for both baby and mom.  I am secretly hoping to never have to endure a day like that again.

Copy of the article from the Herald Journal

Of the many Utah State University graduates who accepted degrees from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday, Twila Boston was born first — more like some 75 years first.
Boston was the first to be recognized by the college’s dean, John Allen, at a ceremony for one of USU’s biggest colleges. On stage donning her black cap and gown, and with the help of her granddaughter, Michelle Tobin, Boston, at the age of 98, was awarded her degree in American studies.
“It was just awesome,” said Tobin, who traveled to Logan from her Manassas, Va., home for the ceremony. “It was amazing; there was a standing ovation, and people came up to her afterward saying how inspiring she is.”
Born on Sept. 7, 1913, Boston will be 99 later this year. Someone of this age accepting a college degree is “a very rare event” for USU, said Kristen Munson, public relations specialist for the College of HSS, and Boston just might be the oldest person to graduate from USU, according to university records.
“The university was delighted to hear from her about wanting to complete her degree,” Munson wrote in an email. “She loves learning. She has never stopped. And she should be commended for her efforts.”
According to USU officials, Boston did take classes through the 1970s and 1980s, but she never finished her degree.
Then, this year, USU got a call from Boston herself, who indicated she wanted to finish. Munson talked to Boston and told her she was just a few credits shy of an American studies degree, which is housed in the English department but is an interdisciplinary program that combines coursework in areas such as English, history and anthropology.
Because of her age, the university worked with Boston to come up with an oral history project she could complete from home that would meet the degree requirements. She finished it two months ago.
Boston moved to Cache Valley in the early 1970s after her husband, a lifelong physician, retired. The Bostons retired here because they had family in the area, including her daughter, who was busy obtaining a master’s degree in education at USU.
Boston had a strong affection for USU, and decided to take classes that interested her. But she didn’t really need a degree by the 1970s — she had entered nursing school in Salt Lake City on her 19th birthday and became a registered nurse.
“If you’re a nurse, you’re a nurse for life,” Boston said in her Providence home Friday afternoon, adding that her favorite classes were history and English. “But I just like to learn.”
Then, a few years after becoming a nurse, when she met and married her husband in 1936 (they were working at the same hospital) when she became an office assistant at his private medical practice. They had four children — three of whom would later graduate from USU — and lived to various cities in Utah, Oregon and Idaho.
“I’ve seen a lot of change,” Boston noted.
She’s lived through seven wars, seen economic prosperity, recessions and a depression, and the rise of science and technology to become a part of everyday life.
The year of her birth, 1913, saw Woodrow Wilson sworn in as president of the United States, the first moving assembly line by Ford Motor Company, and New York City's Grand Central Terminal’s grand reopening as the world's largest train station.
Tobin said her grandmother’s story is an inspiration to her and her family.
“I think it’s cool,” she said. “She’s showing her grandkids and great-grandkids that it’s important to get an education regardless of age.”
Boston said getting her degree from USU is based on her values she learned as a child.
“I was expected to get an education,” she said. “I want that diploma, just like anyone else, and I don’t consider myself smarter than anyone else.”
She still reads novels and watches the news, keeping her mind sharp.
Boston’s advice to the USU graduates of 2012: “Never stop learning.”

Hudson's 1st Birthday

Holy Moly! I know it looks like this was not the most important event of my life(well since his actual birth) but it seriously was fantastic.  I am currently updating my blog FROM MY HOUSE! Many of you may be thinking that doesn't make sense. Well, in all 4 years of living here we have never had the internet.  I always survived with updating at work.  However, I am now starting to work from home part time and the bugger of a computer man blocked blogger at work.  So, that's why this is nearly a month late.  Don't let that say anything about the type of party gal I am.  I LOVED HIS BIRTHDAY! Without further ado...

Hudson turned one! I had been dreading the day(because it crept up on me) since the day we brought him home from the hospital. But I was fully prepared the day it arrived to make it the best darn first birthday a boy could have.  With the Saint George trip the week prior I definitely had planned months in advance what exactly would be happening.  He even finally got his hair cut on his actual birthday! He is such a little stud.

Looking for fun? Hudson's Turning One!
AT CAMP HUDSON
That's right folks, this is about as campy as this gal gets.  And I thought it was fun to have a pretend camp at my house. And the eater in me had the most fun planning the food.  It's the biggest part of a party for me.  The menu included: people in blankets(hot dog wrapped crescents), sleeping bag wraps(deli wraps), catch of the day(swedish fish), fish bait(gummy worms), and many other things.  Oh yeah, and of course, s'mores cupcakes!
These pictures are really crappy, I'm sorry.  Apparentely my house is much too bright to take pictures of the party guests.  I appreciate everyone taking the time out of their schedule on a Tuesday night to come party with the big boy.

Hudson loves his actual presents but unwrapping them is not his favorite thing...as you can tell as time wore on he became less and less interested in them. He is a spoiled boy and I think that is just the way it should be!

Oh the the cake! This part was the part I was most excited for! I was actually nervous, what if my boy is a weirdy like Daren and doesn't like cake? And more importantly, frosting!?
He got so excited when everyone was singing to him. Hudson gives the best smile as is but when everyone was looking at him and singing he knew he was special and the grin was extra good!
He, as most kids are, was a little skeptical of what this large blue mound of food was that was put in front of him.  But he sure liked it. So he dug in...
and then ate some more....until he just couldn't eat anymore.  He even kind of went into a sugar coma.  My confession though, I didn't make a typical cake.  I made him a diabetic cake! There was only 1/8 of a cup of sugar and I didn't think it tasted too bad.  The frosting was legit though and that is what he ate most of.  I was finding blue frosting everywhere for the next 24 hours.
He did wake up that night with a minor belly ache.  I was sad for putting him through that but now we enjoy our sugar together and in much smaller doses.  I love this boy!

Ok, I realize this post is already incredibly long but I kind of want to just give an update on the big boy since I am still a month behind so here it is...

When we went to the doctor his stats were:
Weight: 21.5 lbs- 27%
Height- 31.5 inches- 87%
Head- 90%
This boy loves his food.  He is just now starting to become "picky" but his picky is hilarious to me.  But he eats and eats and eats.  He crawls to the cupboard and pulls out his food.  And yes, if I don't give it to him he will throw a fit.
He is loving the dogs more and more.  He has started to pat his chest(as if saying come here) to them.  I really wish I could teach them to come to him when he does it. It is really sweet.  But he loves our daily walks together. He giggles and talks the whole time on the walk.
A couple days before his birthday, he started walking! He could take between 5-10 steps alone.  I was so proud(and not really a fan of trying to teach him to walk) but then the day after his birthday he decided to take a break and not walk anymore.  I was ok with that also!  But in the past week he has begun again and can really WALK! He walked around our entire house last night.  It's a pace I can handle so that is great! When he breaks out in a run I will probably have a nervous breakdown.
He uses his "words" now.  I love them! He has his same words for hot, blanket, brush your teeth and shoes.  He also sings along to Super Bass (boom, boom part), Old McDonald Had a Farm-- E-I-E-I-O, and Elmo's song-- la, la,la. One of the funniest is the Immigrant Song came one the other day while I was driving and he was screaming a long with it.  Go look up the song, it's the beginning part.  He also has started to mimic kids out in public who start screaming.  That's embarrassing!
I am in love with this age. I would love it if he could really talk to me because we both get frustrated because neither of us know what the other is wanting. But I love the way he now gives kisses and hugs.  I love him feeding himself! I just want to bottle this up.  He is all boy and I think I'll keep him.  It's been one fast year and I love him more and more each day!

Saint George

Ok, so my dad had this crazy idea to take a week and a half off of work.  I knew I'd be real bored but got this crazy idea maybe me and Hudson should go visit Andria and her girls down in St. George.  Kelsi had the chance to come along for the ride, so why wouldn't she want to come?

I waited what seemed like forever to have it actually come! I won't lie, I was absolutely terrified at taking Hudson in a car for 6 hours! He has never had a problem riding in the car but 6 hours!? How do you entertain a 11 month old in a car? Well, no worries he slept the entire time! Minus one quick {ghetto} stop to change a diaper it was SMOOTH sailing.  Even the weather didn't really cooperate but I was cruising! I think I was too excited about going, otherwise I would have been a nervous wreck driving in what I did. Regardless of the journey, we made it! And Hudson still even slept ok the first night even with all that sleeping in the car.

I love my nieces to pieces! They were so excited to see us Hudson! It was fun because Audrey only has school two mornings a week and Avery only had school in the morning.  We did lots of fun things.  Seriously, you won't believe what we crammed in! I even told Andria there was NO way I could have 4 kids if it meant keeping that busy of a schedule every day!

On Monday, I got to experience Zumba for the first time with Andria at her gym.  It was so much fun! I wish I had someone to go with occasionally up here! But you know what St. George has a lot of? Senior Citizens!!! Oh geez, that class was hilarious with the old ladies(and one dude) shaking their thing!
On Monday night, the older girls had their schools version of Reflections.  It really was pretty much a talent show.  Diversity was the theme and let me tell you that was a stretch! But it was hilarious.  I loved it. Kennady and Sydney each painted a picture.
On Tuesday afternoon my little boy got to experience swimming for the first time.  I knew he'd just love it because of how much he loves the tub.  WRONG! He was so scared.  He wouldn't let go of me.

Finally, after we gave him some time to warm up he got right into his floatie without any hesitation! He even started to relax and kick his legs.  I was so proud of him, as silly as that sounds.  And my boy is bound to a little brown boy.  He was only outside for 1 hours with heavy sunscreen on and still ended up with a wicked tan! I'm green with envy.  All I got was a sunburn [SHOCK]

On Tuesday night the older girls had a choir concert.  Again, school events are hilarious! But I am so glad I got to experience the Touachan.  It is really gorgeous down there.  As we were stuck in traffic leaving, Andria started mentioning how the Biggest Loser Resort was right across from her subdivision. I then proceeded to tell her how I follow Sione on twitter and I know that he works there and it would be crazy to run into him...
.....Jump to Wednesday morning when Kennady and Sydney had their little track meet.  Before it had started there was someone running laps and I turned to Andria and said, "Remember that guy I was talking about last night from Biggest Loser? I think that is him"  I really had some serious doubts that it could be until he took his jacket off and the back of his shirt said S Fa. I was star struck [let's go ahead and say I get star struck over the most unusual people] Anyways, Andria thankfully made me go over and get a picture with him.  He apologized for being a sweaty mess and I pretty much explained that I wouldn't expect him any other way.
Well, the girls did excellent on their runs! Kennady got 1st in both of her races and Sydney got 2nd in both of hers.   That means they will be racing in the district now.  This is a direct quote from the guy sitting behind us "Did you see that girl in the pink? She was FLYING!" Yep, that's our girl!!!
Wednesday was a busy day! It was Ms. Avery Ann's birthday also! I can not believe she turned 6!  It was really fun helping Andria with everything getting ready for it.  There was easter egg dying, easter basket decorating and even an easter egg hunt! I'll be honest, I was a jealous of the hunt!
That night was the GREATEST night, and a wonderful way to end the trip.  We went out to eat for Avery's  (and I guess Hudson's) birthday(s).  We went to the Pizza Factory.  My boy can put away some food!!
But the real fun began after dinner.....with pictures! We were all laughing so so hard.  Andria has quite the posers on her hands.  I wish I had stolen some pictures from Kelsi(she was the photographer) because it shows the personalities of my nieces beautifully.

Unfortunately, the night had to come to an end because someone peed their pants [what Boston event doesn't involve a wetting your pants situation]  But there was fun to be had by EVERYONE! I can only imagine what bystanders were thinking.

Well, I was sad to come home on Thursday. Seriously, I could live there.  I never thought I'd say that but it was the best days of my life! Thanks so much Andria! Steal away with these pictures! I'm so glad I blogged about this because you know what's next.....It's huge! It's probably the biggest thing to happen since 365 days ago! Get ready....it'll be a good one!
